Investment Casting Foundry

investment casting foundryBarron Industries specializes in lost wax casting of more than 200 ferrous and non-ferrous alloys including stainless steel, aluminum investment castings, cobalt, and nickel-based alloys including Inconel investment castings.

Work with an investment casting foundry to reduce wasted material and production time in your facility.  Find out how rapid prototyping, one-piece manufacturing and casting production strategies can produce high-strength, precision components for your industry.

At Barron Industries, our vertically-integrated manufacturing process is AS9100 Certified and NADCAP Accredited for Non-Destructive Testing and Welding.

Some of our specialties include the manufacturing of investment castings or lost wax castings, stainless steel castings, investment casting aluminum, and much more.

What Is Investment Casting?

Investment casting is a process that uses wax and ceramic materials to create a cast and mold shell for a metal component.  Using the Investment Casting process, we produce high-strength castings with fine detail and strict tolerance requirements, reducing the need for machining and other secondary finishing.

Our Process

At Barron Industries, we start with a wax pattern design. Our technicians use leading CAD programs and expertise to create a model with +/- .005 inch/inch tolerance. The surface finish standard is 125 to 150 rms microfinish. The wax pattern must account for shrinkage, so it may not match the exact dimensions of your final product.

Next, a ceramic shell is assembled around the pattern. Our state-of-the-art robotic technology creates a shell mold to the exact specifications needed for the material and size requirements of your piece. This is achieved by alternately dipping the mold in a ceramic slurry, sand and stucco.

After the shell reaches the desired thickness and is completely dried, it’s ready for dewaxing. We use intense heat in our various ovens to melt the wax mold and completely clean the interior of your new ceramic shell.

The finished shell is preheated to prepare it for the molten metal. Now it’s time to pour the molten metal into the shell.  This must be done at a precise temperature to achieve the desired alloy characteristics.

Your ceramic shell is then cut away to reveal the metal product. Compared to welding multi-piece components, this process can save you up to 40% of the total cost of manufacturing.

Steel Casting Foundry

steel casting foundryOur lost wax investment casting process produces highly-engineered components for a wide range of industries and alloys. Here are just a few common alloys you can use to create components for your production line:

  • Stainless steel
  • Aluminum
  • Carbon steel
  • Low-alloy steel
  • Tool steel

We also work with exotic alloys and can create components with a wide range of sizes and shapes. The casting varies depending on the alloy and temperature requirements, but the quality never wavers.
