Barron Industries traces its roots back more than 100 years when Joseph Barron founded a sand casting foundry in 1923. Since that time, we have always believed in putting our people first and treating others as we want to be treated. Barron is committed to providing exciting career development opportunities and standing by team members and their families in times of need. We’re a family-owned company, so when you work at Barron, you’re becoming a part of one giant extended family that works to always help each other out.

In 1985, The Detroit Free Press called the Barron family’s original Detroit foundry “an example of racial harmony” where “workers of both races said their bosses hire, promote, train and supervise without consideration of skin color.”

A Plant Where Race Is Not on the Line

The original foundry was an industry pioneer in eliminating racially segregated locker rooms for employees, sending a strong message of equality in the workforce. We have seen firsthand how this core value has made Barron a strong organization, and we continue to work to maintain that culture every day.

At Barron, women make up 50 percent of salaried employees, a ratio not common for the metal casting industry.

Our Values in Practice

When our co-worker was struck with stage four rectal cancer, our entire team rallied to help him and his family cover expenses by organizing a community-wide raffle and a competitive company coin drive where winners got to throw a pie in the boss’s face.

Putting Families First

As a family owned business deeply rooted in our community, Barron Industries prioritizes the well-being and growth of every member of our team. That’s why we are proud to offer premium-free health insurance coverage for all our team members as well as their families. And, in addition to paying the premiums, we also provide up to $3,000 for individuals and $6,000 for families annually to pay for deductibles.

Barron also participates in the Business Resource Network (BRN), a tool designed to help us leverage resources, ensuring our people’s personal needs are met. Through the BRN, team members have access to an experienced success coach who can provide help in managing life’s challenges such as child care, transportation and housing.

People Safety

Safety of our team members is our top priority and we are committed to pursuing the highest standards of health and safety. To achieve this goal, we have adopted the principles of the International Standard, ISO 45001 for our management system and we foster a culture in which we all take responsibility for our own health and safety and that of others. We promote employee involvement and a speak-up culture to ensure that health and safety standards are continuously improved. Our safety committee, composed of team members at all levels of the company, meets monthly to address safety issues including near misses and any accidents. Safety walkthroughs are also conducted on a regular basis to ensure all health and safety requirements are being met and to identify any further preventative measures.

Barron employs AI-driven technology to enhance workplace safety

Barron Industries utilizes CompScience’s advanced AI-powered solutions to improve workplace safety. CompScience applies computer vision and machine learning to analyze visual data from Barron’s facilities. This technology helps identify safety hazards such as fall risks, equipment malfunctions, or unsafe behaviors in real time. By monitoring video footage, it detects near-miss incidents, analyzes patterns, and provides actionable insights to address root causes of potential accidents. Additionally, CompScience’s tools deliver immediate feedback to workers and safety managers, helping enforce best practices and prevent injuries.

Workforce Development

Barron has been blessed to have employees who’ve been part of our family since our beginning in 1983. In addition, nearly 30% of our workforce has been at Barron for ten years or more. Many have started in entry-level positions in the wax room or foundry and worked their way up into higher-paid skilled trades careers such as process engineers, quality technicians, and machinists. Barron invests in our people by offering many development, training, apprenticeships and certification opportunities.

Barron Industries has received the Oakland County Michigan Works Business of the Year Award for our workforce development efforts.. Barron was chosen among the 3,000 companies that OCMW engaged with to assist with their workforce needs. Barron partners with the Michigan Works Going Pro Program, which helps ensure Michigan’s employers have the talent they need to compete and grow while ensuring individuals have the skills they need for in-demand careers.

Employee Appreciation

Every quarter, Barron awards employees with exemplary attendance records with cash bonuses at company-wide luncheons, picnics and holiday parties. Additional bonuses are awarded to those with perfect attendance and those who missed only one day of work for the whole year.
