Michigan Aerospace Companies Advocate for Industry Growth

Strengthening Michigan’s Aerospace Future

With demand for both commercial and military aerospace products at an all-time high, Michigan industry leaders are working to ensure the state is positioned as a key player in the sector. Last week, the Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan (AIAM) hosted its annual Legislative Day in Lansing, bringing together aerospace executives and policymakers to discuss strategies for strengthening Michigan’s aerospace industry.

“Aerospace is exactly the type of industry that has the growth potential we need to drive Michigan’s economy forward,” said Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II in his keynote address. “Every region of our state is a growth region for aerospace… and we should invest in them as such. We now have 166,000 jobs in the aerospace sector in Michigan, and that number could easily triple if we play our cards right.”

During the event, Gilchrist highlighted Barron Industries, an AIAM member company, for its $9.1 million expansion of its manufacturing facilities in Oxford, Michigan. The state contributed $900,000 toward the development of Barron’s Aerospace and Defense Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center (ADAMTEc), which is expected to create 50 new jobs focused on producing high-precision aerospace components for commercial and military applications.

Barron Industries was among the aerospace companies exhibiting in Heritage Hall during Legislative Day. President and CEO Bruce Barron joined 30 AIAM members in 25 meetings with House and Senate representatives, addressing key industry challenges and opportunities.

“We discussed everything from aerospace-specific R&D tax credits to expanding the talent pipeline and increasing industry awareness through a statewide advertising campaign,” said Barron.

AIAM remains committed to strengthening Michigan’s aerospace ecosystem by fostering talent development, advancing research initiatives, and enhancing market access. The organization’s ultimate goal? To position Michigan as the nation’s top aerospace industry hub.
