Barron’s workforce supports the essential services required to meet national security commitments to the federal government and U.S. Military. They make critical components for equipment used in many aerospace and defense applications. While many are able to sit safely inside their homes, venturing out only to head to the grocery store for food, our employees are maintaining a regular work schedule to ensure we continue to supply the parts needed to support our military at home and abroad. They are helping to keep people alive.

“Consistent with the President’s guidelines: ‘If you work in a critical infrastructure industry, as defined by the Department of Homeland Security, you have a special responsibility to maintain your normal work schedule,’” notes a March 20 memo signed by Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Ellen Lord.

“The Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce for the DIB includes workers who support the essential products and services required to meet national security commitments to the Federal Government and the U.S. Military.”

Barron’s “Essential” Manufacturing

Barron Industries is a supplier to some of the largest aerospace and defense contractors including General Dynamics, BAE, Oshkosh, Raytheon, GE Aviation and Boeing Defense, Space & Security, just to name a few. “Barron has remained open on all shifts and has flowed down the requirements to our suppliers as needed that they too are critical to infrastructure and support of our DOD – rated contracts,” said Barron. “In some cases suppliers have opened back up after announcing their closing due to Barron designating them as Critical to infrastructure.”

New Sick-Time Policy

“While complying with the government’s mandate, we are doing all that we can to keep our employees safe by preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus at our plant,” said CEO/President Bruce Barron. “The well-being of our people is of the utmost importance.”
On March 16, more than a week before the State of Michigan issued a “Stay-at-Home” order, Barron implemented a new and permanent Sick-Time policy to address the COVID-19 outbreak.
“Effective immediately, and permanently moving forward, Barron Industries will provide up to one week paid sick- time to all employees who have one year or more of seniority with the Company and two weeks for any employee diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus so they can remain quarantined for the recommended 14 days without concern about income,” said Barron. “We are also complying with all government mandates regarding operations during the Coronavirus outbreak.”
Barron has distributed information to its 75 employees detailing possible COVID-19 symptoms and has instructed them to stay home and practice home isolation and call their doctor if they experience any such symptoms.
“A few employees have been tested for COVID-19, but we have had no confirmed cases at this time,” said Barron.

The Daily COVID-19 Routine

Barron has implemented several measures as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic including:

  • Requiring all employees not essential for production to work from home
  • Daily screening of all its employees as they arrive for their shift which includes non-contact temperature taking and reviewing a checklist of symptoms with each employee as they come in for their shift
  • Issuing of Personal Protection Equipment (masks, gloves, face shields, etc. ) to all employees
  • Placement of sanitary wipe dispensers and bottles of hand sanitizer at stations throughout the plant and at every computer
  • Accepting visitors by appointment only and they too are screened upon entry
  • Barron is also practicing social distancing of at least six feet and requiring all incoming truck drivers to remain in their trucks and Barron personnel will come to them and unload the trucks.
