Barron Industries Displays Metalcasting Technologies for Military Vehicles
Oxford, MI – Barron Industries is exhibiting its metalcasting technologies at the Ground Vehicle Systems Engineering & Technology Symposium (GVSETS) sponsored by the Michigan chapter of the National Defense Industry Association August 13-15. A supplier to the world’s leading aerospace and defense companies for the past 35 years, Barron uses the investment casting process to manufacture Aluminum, Steel and Stainless Steel machined components and mission-critical assemblies.
To meet the soaring demand for its defense industry expertise, Barron is expanding its manufacturing facilities by 10,000 square feet, and its workforce by 30 percent.
“By investing in our new facilities, upgrading our technology and adding people, we are ready to respond to increased demand from our new and longstanding customers,” said President and CEO Bruce Barron. “Plus, we recently acquired NIST 800 cybersecurity certification ensuring Barron’s preparedness in serving aerospace and defense companies that need to maintain information security throughout their supply chains.”
The company is rapidly increasing the production of precision- machined components for many of the ground vehicles manufactured by General Dynamics Land Systems, BAE Systems, and Oshkosh Defense.
“We have installed a new Makino 5-Axis machining center and are updating our foundry operations to increase our capacity and further reduce lead-times,” said Barron.
“With our vertically integrated manufacturing systems, we can already produce mission-critical assemblies in half the industry-standard lead time,” he said.
Barron is a unique full-service manufacturer of both ferrous and non-ferrous precision cast and machined components, 3D printed rapid prototypes and completely assembled mechanical sub-systems. Barron’s in-house capabilities include CNC machining, non-destructive testing, welding, assembly, barcode labeling, and serialization.
“Every component we manufacture is traced back to each operation, who performed it, and when,” said Barron. “Putting all of this together and providing a complete package to the customer is what makes Barron Industries valuable to its customers.”
Typical components supplied by Barron to the defense industry include mounts, instrumentation housings, guidance fins, power distribution chassis, towing components, antenna mounts, hatch rings, hinges, latch assemblies, and exhaust components. Barron is AS9100D accredited, NADCAP certified for non-destructive testing, ITAR registered and NIST 800-171 Cybersecurity Certified.
Also known as the lost wax or precision casting method, investment casting produces high-strength components with fine detail, thin walls, and greater dimensional accuracy than sand and other casting methods.
“Investment castings have an excellent “as-cast” surface finish, reducing or even eliminating the need for machining, and that means huge reductions in cost and lead times,” said Barron.
