Barron awarded diesel engine components…
November 11, 2011Barron Industries, Oxford, MI announced it was recently awarded a purchase order by a Commercial Diesel Engine Manufacturer to manufacture complete rocker arms and camshaft followers for its new 6 cylinder diesel engine. Barron was awarded the business based on a competitive bid for a 10 year term contract for up to 10,000 engines per year. “This is a tremendous opportunity and we have invested heavily to meet the production needs of our new customer, GEP” said Bruce Barron, President and CEO of Barron Industries. Barron has been tooling up for the production launch and has invested $1,000,000 in new equipment including:
- Makino A-51N CNC Horizontal Mill
- Toyoda Select G CNC Cylindrical Grinder
- GH Induction Brazing System
- Lasit Micromark Laser Marking System
Automotive – Cam Follower
Automotive – Rocker Arm
In order to remain competitive, Barron sourced the cam follower casting and machining with their India partner, Tamboli Castings Ltd. The machined castings are shipped from India to Barron where the carbide tip is then silver-brazed and the surface is both rough and finish ground to a mirror-like finish. Barron is casting and machining the rocker arms locally in Oxford, and assembling the rocker arms complete in-house using additional components. Production ramp up begins in June 2012.
