Challenge

Barron Industries was challenged with making two gray iron castings for the Apache helicopter HVAC system. These are aerospace quality castings where the standards are higher than those held by either the Defense or Automotive industry.

Solution

Our customer in the Eastern US located Barron Industries as a possible source to supply them with high quality Aerospace gray iron castings. After several discussions, a plant tour and audit of Barron's process capabilities and quality systems, this company offered, and Barron accepted, the challenge to make both the Rotor Housing and Outlet Retainer for the HVAC system on Boeing’s Apache helicopter.

Although Barron had little previous exposure to the aerospace market, our sharp engineering and highly skilled technical staff, proactive quality assurance and advanced state of the art Non-Destructive Testing equipment allowed us to perform at or above expectations on this highly critical program. The HVAC system on an Apache cools not just the occupants, but all the critical electronic componentry. And if the electronic systems fail, then a mission can be compromised or worse yet, lives can be lost.
